The last Eure Inox workshop: a day dedicated to deepening knowledge on heat treatments of stainless steels

Eure Inox has always promoted these workshops to encourage continuous development, training, and a strong technical culture in the steel industry, while constantly seeking the fullest involvement of all its partners. This commitment is rooted in the belief that the sharing of knowledge supports the development of advanced skills, enables exchange among professionals, and helps grow technical expertise: investing in education means ensuring quality, innovation, and safety, contributing to the creation of a stronger industry ready for the future. The credit for the success of the event goes to Mr. Renato Nemfardi because of his valuable support in organizing the event and for his constant effort in promoting collaboration and mutual exchange with all Eure Inox partners.

The workshop

In October, Eure Inox hosted the workshop “STAINLESS STEEL HEAT TREATMENTS: TECHNIQUES AND RISKS”, attended by more than 80 guests. The focus of the day was on the five main families of stainless steels — austenitic, ferritic, duplex, martensitic, and maraging — and the key thermal processes such as hardening, tempering, aging, recovery, and recrystallization. Metallurgical fundamentals, intermetallic phases, and transformation curves were also examined in depth, providing essential background to understand the importance of heat treatments and their effects on material properties.

A focus on heat treatments: key topics of the day

The detailed analysis of heat treatments for each stainless steel family formed the core of the workshop, guided by the clear and precise explanations of Prof. Eng. Mapelli. In particular, the topics delved into sensitization and chromium carbide reduction in austenitic steels; annealing and recrystallization in ferritic steels; biphasic microstructure and tuning of mechanical properties in duplex steels.
Lastly, the discussion on martensitic and maraging steels focused on essential heat cycles, hardening, and the mechanical properties resulting from these treatments.

Valuable opportunities for discussion and collaboration

The day continued in a friendly and engaging atmosphere with the usual buffet lunch, which once again provided an important opportunity to discuss the topics covered, fostering constructive and ongoing dialogue among all industry professionals. The workshop concluded with a guided tour of the department housing our furnaces. The enthusiasm and interest shown by the guests is always a great source of satisfaction and confirms the importance of such initiatives. The success of this event further highlights the value of technical insights and direct interaction among specialists in the field.
